Grouse Mountain

North Vancouver, British Columbia

Originally built in 1958, this post and beam house is perched on a steep site on North Vancouver’s Grouse Mountain. The long, band shaped house runs parallel with the mountainside, a siting that allows for every room along the second floor to benefit from panoramic views south to the ocean and the city. To open up this level completely, &Daughters removed walls enclosing an office space at the west end of the floor plate and introduced floor-to-ceiling wood-panelled sliding doors which provide both warmth, texture and flexibility to open or close the space as desired.

“Playing to the house’s architectural stock and the client’s love of design, sculptural and brightly coloured mid-century pendant lights from Danish company Fog & Mørup were sourced and installed throughout the home.”
